Awwal Abdullahi Sakiwa
is a prolific painter and book illustrator. He has illustrated over seventy percent of books from Niger State. Similarly, he has made illustrations for organisations such as University Press, Abuja (Social Studies Book 1&2), Association of Nigerian Authors, Schools and Niger State Government. He is a specialist in murals whose works are found in Ondo State, Niger State, Oyo etc.
Awwal conceived and designed the Niger State Logo currently in use. He also designed the logo of the Niger State Book and other Intellectual Resource Development Agency among others.
Some of his other important works are located in Wadata Palace, Bida (gate imbursement design), Jama’atul Nasurul Islam Mosque, Tunga, Minna (Dome Design), Wasagi Central Mosque (Arabic graphic designs and patterns), St. Patrick Catholic Church, Zungeru (Animation), Dana Pharmaceutical, Minna and other places.
Awwal is also a teacher, writer and mentor who is currently the Director of the Hill-Top Arts Centre Authors, Niger State.
